Robert, one of IPP’s participants inside San Quentin states,

“Your contribution indicates that you believe the men inside prison are redeemable – and we are!! They say that doing time is easy. But doing the work of IPP is hard... in a good way. When one discovers what went wrong in one’s life and takes accountability for one's transgressions, I call that justice! How do we as a society want these men to return? For my community I pray that they have a chance to participate in programs like IPP’s to be exposed to new possibilities in life.”

Having you as a partner in this work enables Robert, and the many men like him, to re-enter society as a contributing member. The demand only grows and your support helps us to respond.

Volunteering

Volunteers play an essential role in supporting the work we do at Insight Prison Project. Working in a variety of areas, volunteers aid our staff in data entry, research, committee participation, fundraising, event planning, facilitating classes, and special projects.

We welcome all volunteers who are willing to contribute their time, energy, and expertise. Please complete our online volunteer application and tell us more about yourself.
Volunteer Application Form
Volunteering Inside San Quentin: We receive several requests every month from people interested in offering their time and talent to volunteer inside San Quentin State Prison. While we are thrilled with the interest, we have limited volunteer opportunities inside the prison, and most of those positions go to those who have successfully completed our Victim Offender Education Group Facilitator Trainings. Participating in the training does not guarantee that you will be selected as a volunteer inside. If you would like to volunteer in other ways, please see our current opportunities below.

Current Volunteer Opportunities
  • General Office Support
  • Public Relations Volunteer: We are seeking a volunteer that can assist us with public relations such as developing a press kit, supporting our social media endeavors, spreading the word about IPP to local and national newspapers, etc
  • Fundraising and Development support: If you have experience in grant writing, event planning, or general fundraising, we would love to hear from you
  • Research: We are seeking volunteer researchers for special projects and general support
