For almost 20 years, Insight Prison Project has provided programs that foster insight and lasting behavioral change for prisoners, while also offering crime victims a voice in our criminal justice system. These programs are conducted by highly-trained community volunteers and crime survivors. They create a rare and effective response to our nationwide prison problem and to the needs of prisoners, parolees, crime victims, and our communities.

2015 Keynote Speaker - Ashanti Branch

Ashanti Branch was raised by a single mother on welfare in Oakland, California, and persevered to attend Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo, to study Civil Engineering. Branch changed careers after tutoring struggling students and realizing his passion is teaching. After teaching for 13 years, Branch became the Director of The Student Support Center at his Alma Mater, Fremont High School, and then a Middle School Assistant Principal.
In 2004, while working a full time job as a math teacher and completing his Masters in Education, Branch started The Ever Forward Club as a youth development and mentoring program for young men of color who were not achieving to the level of their potential. The Ever Forward Club has supported over 150 students to graduate high school, with a 100% high school graduation rate and 93% who continue on to attend 2 or 4 year colleges or universities.
Branch and The Ever Forward Club's unique approach and positive outcomes have garnered national attention, including a feature in the full-length documentary about American masculinity titled, "The Mask You Live In." Branch has presented at Tedx, Big Ideas Fest, Sundance, and NPR.
Branch will be a Fellow at the Stanford School of Design (d.school) in the fall of 2015 and after 11 years of working 2 full time jobs, his only job will be to build and scale The Ever Forward Club as the founding Executive Director.

"IPP taught me how to take accountability for my actions, thoughts, and how to connect with my emotions... In order for a caterpillar to transform into a butterfly, it needs a place to evolve. I believe IPP programs offer that place for incarcerated men to transform into healers."
-K.L., Insight Prison Project Graduate, San Quentin "Your contribution indicates that you believe the men inside prison are redeemable. And we are!! They say that doing time is easy. But doing the work of IPP is hard--in a good way. When one discovers what went wrong in one's life and takes accountability for one's transgressions... I call that justice! How do we as a society want these men to return? For my community I pray that they have a chance to participate in programs like Insight Prison Project's to be exposed to new possibilities in life." -R.F., Insight Prison Project Graduate, San Quentin |
"Insight Prison Project gives survivors a platform, a chance to really be heard, which has been very healing for me and for my daughter. The ancient Greek definition of vengeance was: The full application of justice. That's what I was looking for when my husband was killed. IPP understands that the full application of justice is not as easy as locking someone up and keeping them away from seeing the harm that they have caused. I got real justice when the man who took my husband's life applied what he learned through IPP and VOEG-- He connected the dots and became able to demonstrate accountability and empathy. I have been involved with IPP for over a decade now, and I see the transformation of offenders on the inside and on the outside. When the men who have graduated with IPP leave prison and reenter society, they are not just living crime-free lives, they are making a real contribution to our communities. That's justice."

Ways You Can Be A Part of the 6th Annual Fall Fundraising Dinner
- Event Sponsorship: For 5 years, IPP's annual fundraiser has hosted prominent professionals, social justice leaders, politicians, mental health experts, community service providers, former prisoners, attorneys, law school faculty, criminologists, judges, wardens, crime victims, and concerned community members who came together to support IPP. This year we expect to again fill the Golden Gate Club to capacity. A small investment from your marketing budget will reach key stakeholders in state and local agencies, legal firms, banks, and businesses throughout the Bay Area.
- Host a Table: Every year, table hosts agree to write or raise $2,500 to support IPP's programs by inviting their family, friends, and coworkers to become supporters of our work. Our table hosts are an important part of the IPP family and we're thrilled so many of you come back year after year for this inspiring evening.
- Buy a Ticket: We have a limited number of individual tickets for $250 to attend the dinner. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP soon.
- Donate to the Raffle or Silent Auction: Donate items and services to help support IPP! Big winners in the past have been: Handmade items and art, weekend excursions, personal lessons (training, cooking, jewelry making), wine, gift certificates (spa/massage, restaurant, hotels, coffee, shopping). We welcome your creativity!
- Volunteer: This dinner could not happen without the dedicated support of volunteers. In particular, we are looking for detail oriented volunteers to manage the raffle and silent auction.
