Programs Director/ Clinical Supervisor
Drawn to the transformative work of trauma-healing and rigorous accountability, Karena joined IPP as a volunteer facilitator in the Victim / Offender Education Group (VOEG) program. In her role as Programs Director / Clinical Supervisor, Karena oversees all IPP programming in 26 prisons, jails & juvenile facilities in CA and nationwide. Her life-work is informed by critical analyses of social / racial justice, rooted in equity & inclusion & centers the experiences of those directly impacted by systems of oppression. Karena, San Francisco-born & raised, earned her B.A. from The Evergreen State College & her M.A. from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in Integral Psychology. Karena has served as a consultant on tertiary prevention in Central America and, in 2016, was presented with the Harriet Whitman Lee Partnership Award by the Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California (ADRNC). In addition to her work with Insight Prison Project, Karena maintains a private practice in Berkeley.
